Gary Buchanan

In 2002, Gary Buchanan founded Buchanan Capital, Inc., an independent investment advisory firm where every decision is based solely on what is in the best interest of the client. Previously, Gary was the Regional Director, Branch Manager and Senior Vice President of D.A. Davidson. Prior to that, he was Manager of Dain Rauscher in Billings. Gary also served as a Senior Financial Consultant at Merrill Lynch where he began his career in the late 1970s.

Gary’s background includes extensive civic engagement and statewide public service. He was the first Director of the Montana Department of Commerce and former Chairman of the Montana Banking Board, former Chairman of the Montana Capital Investment Board and former Chairman of the Montana Board of Investments.

Todd Buchanan

In 2002 Todd and his wife Brooke moved back to Billings to help start building Buchanan Capital. Today, from offices in Red Lodge and Billings, Buchanan Capital, Inc. serves both individual and institutional clients across the country, proudly supporting their goals with investment advisory, financial planning and asset management strategies. Todd and Brooke met at Montana State University, and after serving two years in the Peace Corps (1998-2000) he was eager to find a way to work with his family back in Montana. The Buchanans continue to stay deeply engaged in civic affairs at the local and state level, including currently serving a second stint on the Montana Board of Regents having been appointed by both Republican and Democrat governors. The Buchanan family currently lives in Red Lodge where they can be found chasing and supporting their teenage kids in the foothills of the Beartooth mountains.

Colton Welhaven, CFP®

Colton Welhaven joined Buchanan Capital in 2019 after beginning his career as a relationship manager and credit analyst at First Interstate Bank. He is a 2017 graduate of Carroll College with degrees in Accounting and Finance and moved back to Billings where he was born and raised. Colton is proud to be serving both institutional and individual clients from our Billings office. Colton and his wife Mika are passionate about serving the local Billings business and education communities. He currently serves as a trustee for Rocky Mountain College, board chair for the Billings Catholic Schools Foundation, and as a member of the Billings Chamber of Commerce Finance Committee. Outside of work, Colton and his wife can be found frequenting local coffee shops, hiking on the weekends, and attending local sporting events in the Magic City.

Kelly Buchanan Ewing

Kelly Buchanan Ewing joined Buchanan Capital early 2016. After attending Oregon State University, the mountains called, and she found her way back to MSU in Bozeman. There, she began her career as an interior designer in 2003. While serving clients all over Montana and other parts of the United States, she decided to bring her design business to Billings in 2014. While she still dabbles in interior design, she followed her heart and joined her family at Buchanan Capital. Kelly’s entrepreneurial background continues to grow with Buchanan Capital and the many other projects her family takes on. Kelly also serves on the Montana State Parks Foundation Board and is co-chairing the campaign leadership team for Yellowstone Valley Animal Shelter with her mom. When not in the office you will find Kelly and her husband, Brian, chasing their two teenage daughters all over the state with their sports activities or exploring the numerous adventures Montana has to offer.

Norma Buchanan

Norma Buchanan helped found Buchanan Capital in 2002. Norma began her professional career at National City Bank in Denver, Colorado. From 1980-1984, Norma served as the Social Secretary to Montana’s Governor and First Lady. Norma has also served on numerous boards, including Billings Symphony Associates, Yellowstone Art Museum Associates, Montana Nature Conservancy, ZooMontana, Beartooth Nature Center and a Billings Montessori School. Most recently, Norma served on the board of Montana PBS. While raising her young children, Norma helped the Yellowstone County Attorney on issues related to seatbelt safety. Currently, Norma is the Honorary Director of First Impressions for Buchanan Capital, Inc. She also enjoys spending time with her four grandchildren and her pets. Her love for animals has inspired her to Chair the campaign leadership team for Yellowstone Valley Animal Shelter and build a new shelter.

Lesli Benoit

Lesli Benoit joined Buchanan Capital, Inc. in late 2022. After graduating from Montana State University, Lesli started a career in marketing with a large insurance company in the Puget Sound area. A Montana native, she returned to Billings in 2012 to take on a management role for a local company and was thrilled to be back home. Always seeking new ways to grow, she pursued a second bachelor’s degree in Dental Hygiene and built a strong network of patients based on trust and customized care. Upon being invited to join the team at Buchanan Capital, Inc. Lesli jumped at the opportunity to turn a hobby of finance and investing into a career. Outside the office, Lesli loves to spend time exploring Montana with her husband Zach and their three children.

Megan White

Megan White joined Buchanan Capital in summer of 2023. A 2011 graduate of University of Montana Western, Megan earned her BA in Health Education while playing collegiate golf. After graduating, Megan moved to Billings where she met her husband, Adam. Returning to a small town was a dream, and in 2016, Megan and Adam moved to Red Lodge. The couple welcomed their first son in 2018, with a second son joining the family in 2021. In 2023, Megan joined the Buchanan Capital team, working in the Red Lodge office. Megan thoroughly enjoys serving the company’s clients and embraces the Buchanan Capital philosophy of generating wealth over a lifetime. When not meeting with clients, Megan enjoys skiing, camping, and time with her young family.
