Gary Buchanan In 2002, Gary Buchanan founded Buchanan Capital, Inc., an independent investment advisory firm where every decision is based solely on what is in the best interest of the client. Previously, Gary was the Regional Director, Branch Manager and Senior Vice President of D.A. Davidson. Prior to that, he was Manager of Dain Rauscher in Billings. Gary also served as a Senior Financial Consultant at Merrill Lynch where he began his career in the late 1970s. Gary’s background includes extensive civic engagement and statewide public service. He was the first Director of the Montana Department of Commerce and former Chairman of the Montana Banking Board, former Chairman of the Montana Capital Investment Board and former Chairman of the Montana Board of Investments. Video Introduction Email Gary Todd Buchanan In 2002 Todd and his wife Brooke moved back to Billings to help start building Buchanan Capital. Today, Buchanan Capital Inc. serves both individual and institutional clients across the country, proudly supporting their goals with investment advisory and asset management strategies. Todd and Brooke met at Montana State University, and after serving two years in the Peace Corps he was eager to find a way to work with his family back in Montana. The Buchanans continue to stay deeply engaged in civic affairs at the local and state level, recently Todd was appointed as a member of the Montana Board of Regents. This marks the second time he will be serving Montana’s Higher Education system, appointed by both Republican and Democrat governors. The Buchanan family currently lives in Red Lodge where they can be found chasing and supporting their teenage kids in the foothills of the Beartooth mountains. Video Introduction Email Todd Colton Welhaven Colton Welhaven joined Buchanan Capital, Inc. in 2019. Prior, Colton worked as a relationship manager and credit analyst at First Interstate Bank. He is a graduate of Carroll College in 2017 with degrees in Accounting and Finance. Colton is proud to be working in Billings, where he was born and raised. Outside of work, Colton is passionate about serving in local business community groups and impacting the education of children. He currently serves on the Billings Catholic Schools Foundation, Billings Public Library Foundation, MSU-B College of Business Advisory Board, and Billings NextGen. Video Introduction Email Colton Kelly Ewing Kelly Buchanan Ewing joined Buchanan Capital early 2019. After attending Oregon State University and Montana State University, she began her career as an interior designer in Bozeman MT almost 20 years ago. While serving clients all over Montana and other parts of the United States she decided to bring her business back to Billings in 2014. While she still loves interior design, she has decided to do what she has always wanted and join her family at Buchanan Capital. Kelly has experience in customer service and office management. She loves working in an industry where client service matters most. When not in the office you will find Kelly, her husband Brian, and two daughters exploring the numerous adventures Montana as to offer. Video Introduction Email Kelly Christian Hannesson Christian Hannesson joined Buchanan Capital, Inc. in 2021. Prior, Christian worked as a Financial Advisor with Merrill Lynch for three years. Christian and his wife, Jessica, originally from Glendive, MT found their home in Billings in 2013 and have fallen in love with the area and its people. They own a successful Interior Design firm, Hannesson Home, which specializes in the Kitchen & Bath and Home Décor space. Christian is very passionate about Billings, its citizens and businesses. Christian serves as an Ambassador for Better Off in Billings which strives for talent retention to the Billings area. Email Christian Norma Buchanan Norma Buchanan helped found Buchanan Capital in 2002. Norma began her professional career at National City Bank in Denver, Colorado. From 1980-1984, Norma served as the Social Secretary to Montana’s Governor and First Lady. Norma has also served on numerous boards, including Billings Symphony Associates, Yellowstone Art Museum Associates, Montana Nature Conservancy, ZooMontana, Beartooth Nature Center and a Billings Montessori School. Most recently, Norma served on the board of Montana PBS. While raising her young children, Norma helped the Yellowstone County Attorney on issues related to seatbelt safety. Currently, Norma is the Honorary Director of First Impressions for Buchanan Capital, Inc. She also enjoys spending time with her four grandchildren and working with her horses and menagerie of dogs and cats. Video Introduction Email Norma Mark Howells Mark Howells is the Chief Compliance Officer of MSH Capital Advisors doing business as Buchanan Capital Inc. While working towards a degree in criminal justice, Mr. Howells began a decade-long career as a police officer. He was introduced to the securities industry while working nights on the Phoenix Police Department. In 1981, Mark began his career in the securities industry, forming his own firm in 1987. In 2000, Mark sold his ownership in the firm, and started M.S. Howells & Co., a boutique broker-dealer that services hedge funds and Registered Investment Advisors. Currently, With over 30 years of experience in the securities industry, Mark has extensive knowledge of the high net worth client, market making, corporate finance, options, and the municipal and corporate bond market. In 2008, Mark recognized a need within the industry for quality accounting and administrative services for hedge fund managers. With that, he established PartnersAdmin, LLC to provide comprehensive back office support to hedge fund managers as well as private equity, real estate, and venture capital funds. In addition, Mark spent 15 years as a member of the board of directors at Inventure Foods, Inc. (SNAK) and is responsible for taking the company public. Through his various successes in life he still has the desire to provide for the public through his businesses and philanthropy, where he supports various charities through his foundation.
